RA Wins Appeal at the ECHR

European Court of Human Rights

Ana Reis Mota, associate lawyer at Rogério Alves & Associados, sponsored the appeal to the ECHR that led to the conviction of the Portuguese State for violating the right to freedom of expression.

A recent judgment handed down by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ordered the Portuguese State to pay around €18,000.00 for violating the right to freedom of expression, provided for in article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

The decision was made following an appeal sponsored by Ana Reis Mota.

In addition to noting the offense against freedom of expression, the ECHR also confirmed the fact that the statements that led to the defendant's conviction were revealed by social security techniques, who would be responsible for maintaining a duty of reserve.
