Law No. 22/2023, of May 25, was published, which regulates the conditions under which medically assisted death is not punishable and amends the Criminal Code, establishing the impunity of the conduct provided for the crimes of homicide at the request of the victim (Article 134), incitement or assistance to suicide (Article 135) and suicide propaganda (Article 139) when the agent acts in compliance with the conditions established in Law 23/2023, namely, without inciting or advertising suicide but only providing information, at the express request of another person, about medically assisted suicide.
The entry into force of this law is dependent on the publication of the respective regulations. The regulation is expected to be approved by August 23; the law will take effect 30 days after regulation.
